The Frederick Resource Material for teachers working with toddlers

Why did I write resource material for the toddler age?

When assessing children with learning difficulties and behaviour problems one will find certain patterns and areas of difficulties that do not stem from the shortcomings these children have been born with, but which are the result of our changed environment and focus. In most cases the difficulties are not the result of bad parenting. The difficulties arise because of an accumulation of influences which have become part of the ‘normal’ upbringing of most children.

In my experience these influences fall into one of the following three areas:
 A) Teachings which favour the left brain hemisphere and neglect the right brain and/or fail to foster the fluent exchange between the two sides.
B) Teaching content which is above children’s developmental interest and capacity for comprehension

C) Over-stimulation of the sense of sight and simultaneous under-stimulation of touch, movement and listening.

The above shortcomings in modern education are now the accepted, unquestioned teaching practice for children as young as one year. I fear for the future! Educators working with the little ones urgently need to rethink some of their teaching practices.

The Frederick Series gives educarers different options and inspiration. The passionate teacher will find in my booklets new ideas and many practical activities, all appropriate for the very young child and designed for optimal brain development. The Frederick material is written in a way that invites the reader to feel and experience from a little child’s perspective.

Each booklet has in the back, matching the recommended activities,  photocopiable Parent Pages which summarises the learning opportunity and benefits for children’s brain development.
